AmeriQuest to Sponsor 2002 FoodFleetXchange Truck Driving Championship at Productivity Convention
CHERRY HILL, NJ - AmeriQuest to Sponsor 2002 "Food FleetXchange Truck Driving Championship" at Productivity Convention.
The 2002 Truck Driving Championship to be held in conjunction with this year's Food Industry Productivity Convention & Exposition in Atlanta in October will be sponsored by AmeriQuest® Transportation and Logistics Resources, Cherry Hill, NJ.
The event, which attracts some 100 drivers from food distribution companies across the nation, will be known as the "Food FleetXchange Truck Driving Championship." AmeriQuest operates the online exchange for Food Distributors International (FDI), the National Grocers Association (N.G.A) and the American Wholesale Marketing Association (AWMA), all of which are Productivity Convention sponsors.
"We are delighted that AmeriQuest has agreed to assume the sponsorship of this important event," FDI President John R. Block said. "It is extremely popular among our members and provides a valuable service in promoting highway safety."
AmeriQuest's commitment to Highway Safety is a high priority, and this event gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment and that of our participants and clients," AmeriQuest President Doug Clark said.
Block was pleased that the championship, also known as the "Roadeo", would be branded with the Food FleetXchange name. "This will help us promote this valuable member service, particularly among the fleet professionals whose support is essential to its success," the FDI CEO declared.
"We recognize that this is a substantial commitment, both financially and in terms of human resources, for AmeriQuest to make, and we are extremely grateful," Block said as he urged all member companies to support the event and the Food FleetXchange program.
"Sponsoring this event compliments our overall food industry involvement along with our other food industry specialized services, from procurement to third-party transportation and logistics offerings, said Joe Ciolino, AmeriQuest executive VP and FoodFleetXchange GM.
The roadeo will be held October 19-20 immediately preceding the annual Productivity Convention & Exposition. It includes competition in three categories: 20/22-foot straight trucks, 28-foot tractor/trailers and 48-foot tractor/trailers.
The championship consists of three parts: a written exam, a pre-trip inspection and a driving competition. The written exam consists of questions that measure a driver's knowledge of safety and operating procedures. In the vehicle inspection competition, each driver looks for equipment defects and safety hazards and determines the readiness of the vehicle for operation. Drivers are scored based on the number of defects identified. Finally, a series of driving course problems simulating everyday operating conditions will test the driver's ability to handle individual problems and to evaluate overall driving situations when moving from one problem to another.
Prizes include trophies, travel awards, and cash awards. For requirements on entering and registration information, contact Michael McCarthy at (703) 532-9400, ext. 226.
